Once our last breath leaves our bodies we shall enter eternity. Today could be your last day with your family, last cast of a fishing rod, last sit in the deer stand, last time to make it right with God. James 4:14 tells us “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” So often we spend our time chasing money or fame or even approval of others, but if the soul never dies and only has one of two places to go why is it always on the backburner? So many people say they believe in God and live for him but how much time do we truly follow his word and do as he has instructed us to do. Even as a preacher I struggle to spend the time I should be dedicating to him.
Let’s look at things from a little different point of view. Say you and your family were caught in a sealed room with an army of gunmen and no way out and a man took every bullet you and your family should have taken and then defeated the army and allowed you and your family to walk away. There was only one request that the man gave and that was for you all to follow a simple book of instruction or those who did not would be tormented and burn forever without dying. See the thing is the book is filled with Love and Joy and peace and forgiveness, nothing hard in there. And as a father it’s our job to lead our children in that very way or we will be held accountable. As a father I failed my first two children by not taking them to church or bringing them up in the word, but God has been faithful to forgive and help me to not only show them the right way but also raise my last one in church until she turned 18.
One day will be our last breath, are you ready?
